Svanfridur

Real name: Svanfríður

Effective period / Period of releases: 1972

Members: Sigurður Karlsson, Gunnar Hermannsson, Pétur Kristjánsson, Birgir Hrafnsson

Icelandic prog rock band, active in the brief period of 1972 - 1973.
Svanfríður was founded in early 1972 by singer Pétur Wigelund Kristjánsson, bass player Gunnar Hermannsson, guitarist Birgir Hrafnsson and drummer Sigurður Karlsson. The last two came from the band Ævintýri, which had gained great popularity some time before. After non-stop playing, they went to London, late summer 1972, to record an album. The album was made in record time (about forty studio hours) and was recorded by Roger Wilkinson, it was released in the fall and was named "What's Hidden There?". It was released by the band itself under the label Svan. Unfortunately their effort went completely un-noticed. The band continued to play a lot in the winter of 1972-73, but in the summer of 1973 broke-up. However over the years the album has become increasingly sought after by collectors. The band was also revived in early 2012 and held a forty-year anniversary concert, featuring all previous members of the band except Pétur Kristjánsson (who passed away in 2004) whose role was sung by Eiríkur Hauksson, Elvar Örn Friðriksson and Pétur Örn Guðmundsson.
