Biography

Hein Schultz
Real name: Heinrich Schultz
Hein Schultz got introduced to Trance music in 2000, and absolutely fell in love with the genre. With appreciation for dance music in the range of Uplifting and even the more commercial radio sound, he recorded music from weekend night-time radio shows, and started his craft by simply wanting to get a continuous mix of these tracks and got to work learning to do this on the digital platform. After playing at parties from a desktop computer for a while, he eventually bought a set of XL-100's and a busted PS-626 in 2002 which helped focus the journey from casual to the professional waters. Under the alias IcarusDJ, a more clubby Hard Trance sound was also adopted.
This saw him spinning vinyl around some of the top South African clubs and a lot of private parties for 4 years. - Also adding Hardstyle to the mix under the alias DIONYSUS in this time.
He took a hard, indefinite leave from the scene in 2005, selling all his gear and vinyl collection to focus on personal life of family and career.
However, in 2011 after seeing a music video on late night TV he again fell in love with Dance music all over again. Specifically, the new Progressive 2.0 sound, which he had no prior exposure to at this point, changed his life.
Promptly organizing himself a pair of CDJ200's, he got back into it with even more passion than before. A weekly session called "Mid-Week 10" was started in 2013 and ran for 20 episodes. This was simply a recording of 10 of the top tracks that was found that week and mixed without any scripting or preparation to test them out. It's what most DJ's do with new music, only these sessions got recorded.
At this point being more in touch with the music, DJ'ing alone was just not satisfying enough, and he started to mess around with production software making mashups and reconstructing mashups heard on popular trance shows and at events, while still using the IcarusDj name. While thoroughly enjoying the mashup period there was still something missing... the need to make originals!
When in 2014 a top local DJ & producer offered a course in production, there was no question in taking this opportunity to learn this skill properly. Although not being able to dedicate all his time to the craft due to personal reasons, the love remained, and the passion stayed fire. Using every opportunity and party to still DJ, any spare time was used to slowly keep upping skills.
He created a few trax over time, each one better than the one before.
The first goal was to get signed and officially release music to world. This happened when he was finally picked up by We Are Trance in 2023, with his first release When You Find It topping out at 13 on the Beatport Hype Charts for Main Floor Trance.
