Born 11 February 1930 in Madras (now Chennai), India. Died 4 August 2003 in New York City.

Moved to America in 1955 to begin his own dance company. Also spent his professional time dancing and film and stage acting. In 1977 he suffered an accident on stage during a rehearsal and became paralyzed from the waist down for the rest of his life. He spent the remainder of his life painting both professionally and as a hobby.
