Coma was a progressive jazz fusion rock band formed in 1971 in Frederikshavn, Denmark. The band was formed by former Ramasjang band members Uffe Markussen, Flemming Friberg and Jakob Mygind. The band's stable lineup was created in 1973 with the addition of Klaus Thrane, Viggo Bertelsen and Leif Christensen. And with this formation the band recorded its debut LP "Financial tycoon" in 1977. The album was recorded at Plexus Studios in Ringsted. featuring three guest musicians on vibraphone, trumpet and violin. The album was released the same year by Genlyd Grammofon. The complicated sound of this avantgarde jazz band is hard to describe, and is most appreciated by those who enjoy King Crimson, John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Frank Zappa. After its debut LP, the band released "Amoc" in 1980, not limited to music: the members were active in local political activities in Frederikshavn, and remained active in the 1980s, releasing a few singles, and in 1986 the third and last album "Love and madness: It's all the same". Coma can be recommended for people who like its aforementioned models (especially Zappa, its instrumental and lyrical inspiration) and songs with some similarities to National Health, Gong and Supersister.
