The BPBS bloodline may be traced to 2001, when members of Datura Blues adopted "Beast, Please be Still" as their Mantra. The Beast’s infancy was spent in Humboldt County, where it served as host to Datura Blues' more experimental leanings (as a recording project, improvisational ensemble and the opening track on Datura Blues' 2003 album "Master the Tempest is Raging!") After a brief spell in Seattle, a short stint in Austin and decade-long love affair with Portland, Oregon, the Beast has returned to its former hunting grounds behind the Redwood Curtain. The tradition and enduring purpose of Beast, Please be Still is to explore the collective creative interests of Datura Blues and their satellite community, inspired by shared aesthetics and with devotion towards allied worldviews.
