The New South Wales State Conservatorium of Music opened on 6 March 1916 and is one of the oldest and most prestigious music schools in Australia. In 1935 the Conservatorium Opera School was founded (see separate PROMPT file), and iIn 1990 the Conservatorium amalgamated with the University of Sydney, and was renamed the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
