Carr and Cartwright both contend that the actors performed the solos and choruses on all of their songs, buffered by 4 additional child singers to fill out the choruses. Carr says that the additional singers were used on all choruses except “My Favorite Things (Reprise)”. However, a historian wrote that none of the actors’ singing voices were used, except in “The Sound of Music (Reprise)”, and that on all the other songs, the vocals were provided by 7 child singers and 5 adults. Additionally, it is reported that in “So Long, Farewell”, Darleen Carr, Charmian’s sister, performed the high note (“bye”) for Duane Chase.
