American soprano whose career spanned for more than 60 years, during which she performed for the New York City Opera, the Metropolitan Opera and opera houses throughout Europe and Canada. She also recorded with Duke Ellington and danced and sang with Harry Belafonte. She spent 42 years living in Milano, Italy, but after her husband, industrial designer Baron Hans von Klier died in 2000, she relocated back to the United States.
