The Calls

THE CALLS are an indie rock band hailing from the hazy shore of Leeds, classic indie with a healthy dose of woozy psychedelia. Tom Fuller weaves melodic songwriting with wistful vocals and cryptic wordplay, while lead guitarist Will Johnson and bassist Marcell Haslewood bring an unrestrained ferocity and cinematic atmosphere that continually defies expectation.
The Calls are an enigma. Their distinctive and versatile sound is coloured by an eclectic array of influences from The Stone Roses to Radiohead, and Tame Impala to My Bloody Valentine. Counting the likes of Tom Hingley, Peanut, and Josh Warrington among their fans, The Calls “give an absolute schooling to anyone who underestimates indie’s power to push boundaries”, never failing to captivate listeners as they glide seamlessly through dark, psychedelic dub-rock into catchy indie jangle pop.
The trio cut their teeth on their musical journey playing alongside the likes of Tom Hingley & the Kar-Pets, The Reytons, and The Lottery Winners, even performing in Leeds’ Millennium Square to close the Tour de Yorkshire in 2018. But they couldn’t remain a best-kept secret for long, and soon jetted off to Germany to headline Dortmund’s Mukkefux festival in 2018, returning the following year for a mini-tour of Dortmund and Schlüchtern. More recently, in February 2023, The Calls performed a sold-out headline set at Oporto Bar as part of Independent Venue Week in Leeds.
