Short is known to have entertained in lounges and restaurants in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin throughout the 1970s, billed as "playing your favorite standards, country western, and contemporary music." He was a regular at such venues as The Attic in Freeport, Illinois; The Swiss Colony Inn in Monroe, Wisconsin; and Reinie's Road House & Pizza Express in Woodstock, Illinois.
