Any serious intentions music-wise began for Ray King as the front-man with The King Size Kings in 1965, his soulful voice and ‘gentleman’ persona captivated audiences wherever they played.
A year later the band reinvented themselves as The Ray King Soul Band and from that point a local legend was up and running.
The years 1964/65 were good for the band but things were to get even better in 1967 when they not only signed to the famous Pye Label and release their first single Behold but they also took up a residency at the famous Playboy Club in London, which played host to the likes of Sinatra, Sammy Davis and George Harrison.
They eventually changed their name to the Ray King Soul Pact and Terry Howells replaced Terry Leeman on keyboards. Embarking on a tour of UK and Europe that lasted some 18 months non-stop, they played with the likes of Ike & Tina Turner, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Wonder!
