The Poe Kats

Group formed by Bobby Poe in Coffeyville, Kansas in the 1950's. The Poe-Kats were one of the first interracial rock & roll groups, featuring Poe performing the band's Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis numbers and pianist "Big" Al Downing doing the lead vocals on their Fats Domino and Little Richard songs. Lead guitarist Vernon Sandusky and drummer Joe Brawley rounded out the quartet. The group later performed as Wanda Jackson's backing band.
