From Canberra, Australia — The Gadflys mixed the busking flavour of the Violent Femmes with all manner of American roots music (rockabilly, country, R&B, jazz). The late 1984 line-up comprised Mick and Phil Moriarty, Anthony Hayes (guitar), Nic Dalton (bass) and Pete Velzen (drums). Hayes, Dalton and Velzen all left in 1985 to form the Plunderers. The Gadflys broke up for a time, but the Moriarty brothers revived the name a few years later.
