He was a BBC bandleader of the 1950s. His "Old-Tyme Dance Orchestra" was one of the leading UK bands of the period. Later in his career his music became synonymous with music for ballroom dancing. He had predicted the rise in the popularity of old-time and ballroom dancing. He held annual reunion dances that filled the Empress Hall at Earls Court with members of the 30,000 clubs that were in the country.
