Alan Stringer

British classical trumpeter, and teacher. Born 8 December 1928 in Ancoats Hospital, Manchester, England - Died 8 September 2012 in Nerac, Lot-et-Garonne, France.
He started as a cornetist and at the age of sixteen, he played Principal Cornet of the Besses O' Th' Barn Band. From 1946 to 1952, he was with the The Central Band Of The Royal Air Force. Alan was Principal Trumpet of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra from 1953 to 1993, apart from a year (1960-1961) as Principal with the London Symphony Orchestra. He taught at the Royal Northern College Of Music. After retirement he moved to France and lived in Nerac, between Bordeaux and Toulouse. He was a MBE recipient.
