During 1980 and 1981 The Lemons were regularly headlining at Dingwalls, The Marquee and many other well-known London venues. Put together by guitarist/songwriter Ian Roberts who worked at The Hope & Anchor in Islington. A terrific young live band with infectious, humorous songs and sharp lemon coloured suits – the musical influences of The Lemons included doo-wop, New Orleans rhythm & blues, Jamaican ska and rocksteady.

When an intended long-term deal with Magnet Records fell through at the very last minute, Brad and Rick Rogers from The Specials came to the rescue and “My Favourite Band” was released during the summer of 1981 on Race Records – a label set up by Brad to promote up and coming acts of a ska and reggae persuasion.
