Between Dec. 1949 and May 1951, Stanley was married to Kay Starr. Even after their divorce, he continued to be her manager. In 1954, Starr and Stanley opened their own music publishing company, Starstan Music Corp..
Known for co-writing hits such as "You're My Sugar", "Half a Photograph", "The Man Upstairs", and the perennial Christmas favorite "(Everybody's Waitin' for) The Man with the Bag".
