Real name: José María Barroso

Classical / flamenco guitarist. Born 14 January 1897 in Tehuacán, Puebla, Mexico. Died 19 February 1986 in Burbank, Los Angeles, California.

Barroso was originally a cellist with the Mexico City Symphony Orchestra and then, after emigrating from Mexico in 1919, the Seattle Symphony. In 1930 he was the leader of his own orchestra in Los Angeles but sometime after 1940 he became a studio guitarist and private music teacher in Los Angeles. He was a friend and colleague of the Brazillian classical guitarist Laurindo Almeida and many of his releases are performances of Laurindo's compositions.
