Mama Dada 1919

Effective period / Period of releases: 1979

Members: Kenneth Newman, Bradford Braden

American group formed in 1978 by Bradford Braden of prog rock band Maelstrom and Kenneth Newman. Instrumentation included African percussion, Indian sitar, tenor sax, oboe, electric guitars, custom-made Moog/Buchla/ARP-style analogue synths and a very early computer music/sampler design, the ondes sol. They were joined by Sylvia Fischbach-Braden on voice and viola. For concerts, Paul Sears (2) of the Muffins would join them on drums. They continued to perform until 1980 and then were inactive until 1998 when they released a new CD.
Although the official name of the group was Mama Dada 1919, they often played under the name MD19.
Influences on the band were Univers Zero, Art Zoyd, Magma, Can, and Henry Cow.
