George W. Thomas

Real name: George Washington Thomas Jr.

American blues and jazz pianist, composer and publisher. (1883-1937)

Considered by some as the originator of the Boogie Woogie piano style.
Was a successful songwriter and had hits with such tracks as "Houston Blues", "Muscle Shoals Blues" and "New Orleans Hop Scop Blues".
Brother of Hersal Thomas and Sippie Wallace. Father of Hociel Thomas.

Released the recording "The Rocks" in 1923 under the name of Clay Custer.

Partnered with Clarence Williams in 1914 to form a New Orleans-based publishing company which after the closing of the Storyville district in 1917 would be moved to Chicago.
