Johan De Nobel
Johan de Nobel (Haarlem, June 21, 1912 - Sittard, October 14, 1986) was a Dutch cellist and music teacher.
Johan de Nobel's father was Piet de Nobel, music teacher at a secondary school in Haarlem. Johan had two brothers. Johan and his brother Felix developed musically. Johan de Nobel studied at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Max Orobio de Castro and later in Zurich with Emmanuel Feuermann. Johan de Nobel was a cellist in the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (KCO) from 1934 to 1961. He was also part of several ensembles including from 1954 to 1961 the Hekster Quartet founded by Jo Hekster, further the Amsterdam Chamber Music Society and the Master Trio the latter conducted by Paul Godwin. De Nobel reported on the trip the KCO made in the United States in 1954 in the Volkskrant. From 1961 to 1975, Johan de Nobel was first cellist in the Limburg Symphony Orchestra in Maastricht. He also taught at the conservatory in Maastricht. Oscar van Hemel dedicated a cello concerto to him, which he performed repeatedly. Among his students were Jan Dols, Jos Kerssemeeckers Frans van der Grinten, Mariet van Dijk , Cecilia van Hoof, Gemma Serpenti Claudia Weertman and Jolande Gruys.
