Melpo Merlier was an important Greek musicologist & folklorist. Born in 1889 in Xanthi, Ottoman Empire - Died 3 November 1979 in Athens, Greece.In the summer of 1922, as Melpo Logotheti, she visited Roumeli to collect folk songs. She is said to be the first Greek woman who ventured on-site research and the first systematic attempt to collect the Roumeli folk song. She was the founder of the Association Music Archives of Tradition (now Κέντρο Μικρασιατικών Σπουδών) in 1930.
