Real name: Volker Päutz

As a boy he was a member of the Thomanerchor in Leipzig. While at school, (as Eric Thomace) he was a member of the beat band The Chaps in Luxembourg, with which he also played his own songs and recorded five records in late 1960s. This was followed by a two-year study of music in Saarbrücken (piano, guitar, trumpet). Thomas himself wrote many texts in German, French, English and Italian and also composed. His former producer was Horst Heinz Henning. There were 32 Eric Thomas fan clubs.
In 1969 he was a participant in the Schlager festival Festivalul De Muzică Ușoară in Romania with the title Che Bello È by Ana Aldea-Ciocan and Ion Ion Vasilescu. In 1970 he appeared twice in the ZDF Hitparade. At the german competition Schlagerwettbewerb1970 on June 4, 1970, Eric Thomas sang himself with starting place 6 and the title Tränen trocknen schnell im Sonnenschein in 6th place.
