Libra

Real name: Libra Lee Mitchell

Effective period / Period of releases: 1982 - 1984

Singer and dancer, Libra Lee Mitchell had a club hit in 1982 with her song "Ride This Pony" which led to appearances on MTV and Soul Train. But her dependency on drugs and alcohol led her to abandon several career opportunities. Eventually, she became addicted to crack and lived on the streets. But she pulled through and finally got out of this lifestyle.
Since then, she founded a very active religious congregation in Memphis, Tennessee, and became The Prophetess Libra Mitchell. She also formed the label Joy Records (devoted to Gospel), and released an album called "Come Out Da' Street", which was inspired from her own experience.
