Bob Meyer

Real name: Robert Henry Meyer

Austin, Texas musician who plays trumpet, saxophone, flugelhorn and other instruments

Bob began his professional music career at age 14, graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois, and attended Beloit College in Wisconsin. He received his master's degree at the University of Miami where he also began teaching music. Bob moved to Austin in 1978 to become the Director of the Jazz Studies program at the University of Texas. He soon joined the ever popular "Beto and the Fairlanes" in 1980 as a trumpet and alto sax player.

Bob was hired as the first Music Liaison for the City of Austin in the 1980s at which time he was instrumental in advancing the new official city slogan "The Live Music Capital of the World." Bob is remembered as a cast musician for Ray Benson's stage production "A Ride with Bob: The Bob Wills Musical."
