His music career took an abrupt turn at the end of 1967 when he suffered serious head injuries in a car accident while traveling to a gig in Germany. This incident led to his withdrawal from the active music scene. Post-music, Curtis worked in various roles, including as a croupier and in a Ford engine factory.
