Hill started his music career in Denton, Texas, playing with bands including Marmalade, Slobberbone, The Townies, Mudville Nine, The Nick Brisco Band and 12lb.Test. In 2000, Hill relocated to Seattle, where co-founded The Nancy Boys and began releasing music as a solo artist. In 2006, he moved to Austin, Texas, where he continued to perform solo as well as forming the band The New Maps. He moved to Colorado in 2015.
