Johnnys was once the first Japanese idol group to debut from Johnny's Office.Formed in April 1962. The group disbanded on December 31, 1967. Also known as THE JOHNNYS.
On August 28, 1966 at 21:30, Johnnys flew from Haneda Airport to the U.S. on a Japan Airlines plane for three months in order to take full-scale dance lessons. Since there were no direct flights to the continental U.S. at that time, Johnnys spent a time in Hawaii, a transit destination, and arrived in Los Angeles on the 30th. After sightseeing at Disneyland on the 31st, he lodged at Janie Kitagawa's parents' house.
The following September, Johnny Kitagawa, who had arrived from Japan late, joined the four members of Johnnys. From then on, the four Johnnys members watched musicals and attended dance and vocal lessons with the help of Mike Curb.
In the process, they had the rare experience of meeting Charles Strauss, Bing Crosby, and The Monkees, and also happened to meet record producer Barry de Vauson, who gave them the opportunity to sign with Valiant Records, a record label owned by Barry. Johnnys therefore extended his three-month stay by one month and began work on an LP record. However, the reality was that even if a Japanese artist released an LP, he would not be able to secure a sales channel, and the release of the LP was stalled. At the same time, the leader of the group, Shinke, said, “I'm going to make a group. At the same time, the leader of the group also said that he wanted to dissolve the group. Thus, Johnny Kitagawa and Johnnys returned to Japan on January 5, 1967.
In 1967, after Johnnys' return, Valiant Records was sold to Warner Brothers Records, and in July of the same year, only two songs, “I Remember” and “Nothing Sacred,” were released as A and B sides of a single in the US under the name “THE JOHNNYS” in the United States.
The master tapes of the 16 songs recorded on the album have all been lost. Only 9 songs are still in existence.
