Pish Posh

Real name: Keef DeStefano

Effective period / Period of releases: 1997 - 2015

A member of New York's Liquid Sky family, DJ Wally began taking trip-hop into new directions with three EP's recorded for his own label, Sams Jointz. The tracks contained an astounding variety of sounds, encompassing ambient, funk, jungle, plus a solid exercise in '70s nostalgia — a reworking of Simon & Garfunkel's classic "Feelin' Groovy". Mo'Wax founder James Lavelle liked what he heard, and licensed one track for his 1996 trip-hop compilation, Headz II, a roll call for all the best artists in the new electronica. Early the following year, DJ Wally released his debut album, "Genetic Flaw", for Liquid Sky's Home Entertainment subsidiary. Paired with DJ Swingsett, Wally released "Dog Leg Left" later that year on Ubiquity and was listed in URB magazine's Next 100. The Stoned Ranger Rides Again followed in 1998 as well as Pish Posh's debut, "Up Jumps the Boogie" on Rawkus. Over the next few years Wally continues to drop solo albums and 12"s on various labels like Sub Rosa, Grand Royal, Thirsty Ear and The Agriculture. He has also remixed a myriad of well known artists from Alicia Keys to Black Star {Mos Def & Talib Kweli} to Nina Simone. Wally has also done original tracks for CL Smooth, Ice T, The Jungle Brothers, Luscious Jackson and countless others. Since the 90's Wally has been a successful DJ touring the world performing in every major city. Wally is responsible for composing theme songs for various successful television shows such as Basketball Wives and Hip Hop Honors on VH1 and Gangland on The History Channel. Wally comes from an era when record companies manufactured records and CD's and didn't solely rely on web based sales. His discography is immense and has seen releases on over 30 different labels worldwide.
