American rock band, formed in the late 1980s by singer/songwriter Scott Johnson (9) and guitarist Bryan Ward in the Baltimore, Maryland area. By all accounts, Bonepony began as a hard rock band, similar in style to Aerosmith. The band recorded and toured sporadically.

The duo moved to Nashville in 1991, where they hooked up with Kenny Mims, a producer, who became a bandmember. In 1994, they signed to Capitol Records, which released their debut album, Stomp Revival, in 1995. Mims then left the band and was replaced by Tramp (5), who played a variety of stringed instruments. In 1997, Capitol rejected the group's proposed second album and dropped them from the label. Johnson, Ward, and Tramp woodshedded, working on new material, and in 1998 recorded Traveler's Companion, which was released in 1999 on their own independent SuperDuper label.
