Jimmy Scott

Real name: James Scott

Effective period / Period of releases: 1968 - 1986

Jimmy D Scott was born May 22, 1951, and began recording at the age of 14. His first recording was produced by Clay McMurray. His recordings has been released on a variety of labels: Detroit Gold, Eastbound, Fee, Earwax and Westbound Records.

In his early recordings he is credited as 'Little Jimmy Scott' and 'Little Jimmy Scott & The Soul Messengers', e.g. on his 1967 recordings on the Giant label, which includes his Northern Soul classic 'It Rained 40 Days & Nights'. After he began touring however, he became aware of the legendary jazz vocalist with the same name. His later recordings would credit him as Jimmy Scot and sometimes as 'The "Detroit" Jimmy Scott' so he would not be confused with the legendary jazz vocalist: Jimmy Scott.
