Hatfield served two terms as 29th Governor of Oregon (January 12, 1959 – January 9, 1967) as the youngest person ever elected to that office, and then represented Oregon in the U.S. Senate for 30 years (1967-1997), rising to chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
