Emanuel Young

Conductor. Born February 12, 1918 in Brighton, England of Russian parents. He obtained a diiploma in conducting from the Roy College of Music in London. In 1938 he joined the musical staff of the Sadler's Wells Opera Company but soon after joined the armed forces where he was appointed the British Entertainment Officer in Italy and Austria. In this capacity he conducted opera, ballet, and symphony concerts. He served as conductor with The New London Opera, The Carl Rosa Opera Company, the Welsh National Opera Company, the Royal Opera House, and Covent Garden.
