Arthur Winograd

Effective period / Period of releases: 1957 - 1964

US conductor and cellist (* 22 April 1920 in New York City, USA; † 22 April 2010 in Morristown, New Jersey, USA).

His musical studies began at the New England Conservatory, and continued at the Curtis Institute. A Founder member of the Juilliard String Quartet, he played with them for nine years. While at Juilliard he conducted a series of concerts of the works of Berg, Webern and Schoenberg organized by the faculty. A National tour of these same uniquely difficult works followed - inaugurated at the Library of Congress - and the success of this tour established Winograd as a young conductor of exceptional promise.
For some years his conducting has been divided between string orchestra ensembles and the full symphonic groups, playing works classical and modern, and he is now (1959) represented by over thirty significant titles.
