His musical background is typically Congolese. He made his debut in song in 1976, in small groups in a populous district of Kinshasa. His models were called, at the time, Papa Wemba, M'Vula N'Yoka Longo, Gina Efonge and Evoloko Jocker, four singers from the Zaïko group of the 1970s. But on the singing side, the one with which he identifies most is Tabu Ley Rochereau.
