Jan Wallgren

Real name: Jan Edvard Wallgren

Composer, pianist and teacher born in Bærum, Norway, February 21, 1935. died in Ystad, Sweden, 1996. Worked professionally as a jazz musician around 1955-1958. After that he withdrew from playing in public and got involved in the study of early music (baroque, renaissance) and different kinds of Oriental music. Taking inspiration from Alan Hovhaness among others, Wallgren started an experimental music ensemble in 1964. After that he continued working in this tradition of practice as a free-lance composer and musician. Wallgren also composed his first Opera "Balagantjik" in Stockholm 1986. He was a co-founder of the Dragon label.
