Karlheinz

Real name: Karl Giesing

Effective period / Period of releases: 2005

Raised primarily in Indiana, Karl studied Music Composition and Philosophy at Ball State University from 1989-1992. In May of 1992, he moved to Boston to live with his brother Kris, who was an undergraduate of MIT at the time.

In 1996, Karl started recording his tape-loop compositions and noise assemblages. It was at this time that he adopted the name Karlheinz for his musical persona. The name was given to him by Keith Fullerton Whitman, after German electronic composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, a musical influence common to both Karl and Keith.

From 1998-2000, Karlheinz was one half of the explosive percussion-and-electronics duo Lord and Karlheinz (Max Lord being the other half). And in May-June 2003, he teamed up with drummer John Ruhe to form Karlsruhe. However, for the most part he performs as a solo noise artist.
