Rank Ensemble is one of Helsinki's primary new music ensembles, with equal focus on free improvisation and contemporary works. Since the group's inception in 2009, Rank has performed at numerous venues and festivals, both as improvisers, and giving performances of works commissioned by or written for Rank Ensemble, as well as Finnish premieres of works by composers such as Simon Steen-Andersen, Stefan Prins, and David Toop. Rank Ensemble has organised its own annual concert series since fall 2010, presenting a range of projects and collaborations in diverse cultural venues across Helsinki.
