Laura Leslie

Real name: Betty Suyker née Wilhelm

Effective period / Period of releases: 1954 - 1959

American pop and jazz singer, originally from Baltimore, Maryland. She sang with the orchestra of Sammy Kaye in the late 1940s, and after leaving the band in the early 1950s, she and her husband, guitarist Bill Suyker (m. 1953) did recording and commercial work in New York. In the 1960s, Suyker started working with Burt Bacharach, and she devoted herself to raising their children, still occasionally singing, doing backing vocals for Dionne Warwick and other Bacharach singers. The family lived in Pennsylvania until 1970, when they moved to Florida. She also sang as "Betty Wells" on the radio in the early days of her career.
