Tony Lawrence was an American singer originally from St. Kitts.
As a child, he moved with his family to Virginia where he began his singing career in the late 1950s. He later moved to New York City & became known as "The Continental Dreamboat" as a lounge/cabaret singer/entertainer. He recorded several singles through the 1960s which stylistically covered the Calypso sounds of his home island through to the current R&B sounds of the day. Lawrence appeared in Paris in 1964 & in 1965 he partook a successful nationwide tour as part of the "Teen 'N Tea Caravan", sponsored by the Tea Council of the U.S.A. From 1967 Lawrence was director of the Harlem Cultural Festival of which the 1969 event is the subject of the 2021 documentary “Summer Of Soul”. Little is known of his career from the 1970s.
