Virginia Childs

Real name: Mrs. William Bootle

Hillbilly singer, who recorded for Columbia in Atlanta, Georgia, and New York City, in 1926. Of a total of 14 titles only two were issued.
Her recordings were included in Blues and gospel records 1890-1943 (1997), p. 156, with a note about her probably being a hillbilly singer, in spite of inclusion in the Columbia race series.
This was later confirmed: "Our aural judgment that this was a hillbilly artist has been proven correct by her discovery. Mrs. William Bootle, as she now is, was interviewed by Tony Russell on 11 December 1999." (Howard Rye, "I believe I'll make a change: Blues & gospel records 1890-1943 updates, corrections and additions", Blues & rhythm, no 167 (2002), p. 12)
