During and after his studies Pîrvu played in various ensembles and toured internationally.
In the seventies he often performed and recorded in The Netherlands. He was established there since 1982 and he continued his career as musician and teacher.
Pîrvu founded his own ensemble in 1987, consisting of six Romanian musicians including taragot, cimbalom, violin and accordion.

In 2000, he was declared ‘Ridder in de Orde van Oranje Nassau’ by the Dutch Queen Beatrix.
