American jazz drummer, bandleader, composer and vocalist, born December 27, 1949, NYC. Son of Thelonious Monk, nicknamed "Toot," he started to play drums before the age of ten. He studied with Max Roach and toured with his father. He has been successful in jazz, earning a few awards throughout his career. He is also founder and chairman of The Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz.
