From the start of his career, Raffaelli had an interest in lyrical decors and scenography and played an important role in the development of theatrical design in the 1950s and 1960s particularly in France. Working along Picasso, Chagall and with writers such as Prévert, Neruda, he was named a Chevalier des Arts et lettres in 1989.
