Smallpox is a french rock band formed in 1988 in Rouen (Normandy). First line-up included José Bouttard (Vocals & Harmonica; ex-Fœtus, ex-Vermines), Gilles Bloquel (Guitar; ex-Marienthal), Gilles Marc (Bass; ex-Marienthal) and, few months later, Michel Vasselin (Drums) after the departure of a first drummer. The band considered its musical genre as a mix between rock and blues. Like they said : "Our influences range from Bob Marley to Graham Parker, Garland Jeffreys, the Atlantic soul but also people like Chris Bailey, The Sterns or The Sinners."
After few live shows in the Rouen area, the band released a first demo in 1989 (2 songs). They continued with some CDs releases in the 1990's. A new bassist, Rémy Dengoyan, came in 1993. They did some openings in that decade for Mister Moonlight.
The band split up in late 1990's. The original line-up reformed in mid-2010's under the name "The Milfs".
