Norwegian group initiated by Torgrim Sollid in 1976. The band emerged from the work of Sollid of recreating traditional music from Østerdalen in Norway -- a ork that resulted in the album Østerdalsmusikk. On the band name:
The word 'søyr' [from Norse "saurr" (usually translated as 'muck'), related to English 'sour' and German 'sauer'] is a dialect word from the region where some of the music originates. Søyr is the strong, foul smell of wet, woolen, dirty and smelly socks -- and of the feet within! -- after several days (weeks!) of hard, intense labour on the summer farm or after trecking over the mountains for weeks..
