Wacław Święcicki
Wacław Święcicki (September 26, 1848 in Warsaw—October 26, 1900 in Warsaw) was a Polish poet, socialist politician and trade unionist.
The author of the text of the revolutionary song "Varshavyanka of 1905". He wrote in 1879 while serving a sentence in the Warsaw Citadel for socialist activities. In 1883, upon his return from Siberian exile, the text was published in the illegal Polish magazine Proletariat. The Russian name "Warszawianka" stuck to it after the May Day demonstration in 1905.
