Furnace

Effective period / Period of releases: 1992

Members: Brian Artwick, Mike Kelly (2), Toxin (4), Ortho (3), Radium (7), #6, Synthetic (7)

This was THE first group to mix industrial with grindcore. They recorded their first 7" record in 1992... primitive, yet insanely BRUTAL!

Furnace, the brain child of DJ Resin aka Brian Artwick, was created in early 1992 when he recruited Incarnus for vocals. Shortly after Toxin, Radium, and Ortho joined on guitars. Furnace immediately created their first self-titled E.P. which was released on Chamber Noise Recordings and later reissued on Ishnigarrab Recordings. It was at that time that DJ Resin coined the term "cybergrind" to describe their new mix of computer generated grindcore. After hearing the debut Furnace release, Gothic Records rereleased it as an abbreviated 7" record entitled "Cremated Souls."

In early 1993 Furnace went through a complete facelift as DJ Resin replaced all other members of the group. At this point Synthetic (7) joined on vocals and shortly after #6 on guitar. It was at this time that Furnace abandoned the grindcore elements in their music and switched to a noise / industrial format and incorporated mass visuals in their live show.
