Bernadette
Real name: Bernadette Reilly
Effective period / Period of releases: 1967 - 1984
Scottish artist whose early career was in music as a singer and songwriter, and whose later career spanned acting and multimedia work, and then matured into sacred iconography art.Her music career is described below. Of her more recent iconography painting, she explains "There is a silence in the icon which creates an atmosphere of prayer and contemplation. An icon creates a sacred space into which one can enter to pray, whether privately at home or in a church" ..." I studied Neo-Coptic iconography in the London studio of Dr Stephane Rene, and my own original style was inspired and has grown from the roots of that tradition... "Being an iconographer is an expression of my life as a Christian. I have been privileged to create many large icons contributing to Catholic Christian life in Scotland."
Music Career
Taken from the sleeve notes from her 1984 Album Back On The Road Again: Nothing can be said today that can equal the praise and adulation that was heaped upon the shoulders of Bernadette when, at the age of 16 she was catapulted to international stardom, via hit singles, major album releases and well over 100 television shows including 3 series of her own. Bernadette became the darling of the media – she represented Britain in song festivals throughout Europe, she toured constantly throughout the country, acted on television and throughout all of this was hailed as a genuine new talent.
Today Bernadette is no less of a talent than then. The difference is the maturity of and the real feeling in her performance.
Bernadette’s music was always unclassifiable – a blend of folk, traditional and modern, personal statements in her own personal style. The great many people who remember the stunning live performances will not be surprised but will be delighted by this album.
Bernadette is back on the road and once again the public will welcome her success, because they know that the talent and the person deserves it.
