Sullen

Effective period / Period of releases: 2003

Members: Shanna Kiel, Justin Slazinik

Sullen was a popular grunge/alt-rock band that formed in St. Louis in 1999, broke up in 2004, and re-formed for a short time in 2006. Although there was much intra-band turmoil (and a number of line-up changes, including Scott Freeman (drums x2), Tommy Schmitz (drums), and Matt Basler (drums)), the two consistent members of Sullen from its inception through its demise were Shanna Kiel (guitar/vox) and Justin Slazinik (guitar/vox).

Sullen was nominated for a number of Slammies (the Riverfront Times' music awards) and played with a number of national touring acts including Veruca Salt, The Frogs, Verbena, Jucifer, and Local H.

In 2003, Sullen signed with Chicago-based record label Thick Records, which re-released their album Paint the Moon.
